Getting to Courchevel

We have travelled this route by road every year for around 20 years now and have always gone pretty much the same way to the apartment and done the same in reverse back. To relieve the monotony, we have, of course, experimented with several more scenic routes when time allows, but this one is about as uncomplicated as it gets:

We go: Calais – Arras – Reims - Dijon - Lyon - Chambery - Albertville - Moutiers - Courchevel

It is 90% motorway costing about £75 in tolls each way (for convenience, we have an E-Movis tag to allow us to use the fast channels at toll booths). It is around 915km from Calais and takes around 9-10 hours direct in light traffic, roughly: 3 hours to Reims, then 2 hours to Dijon, 2 hours further to Lyon, an hour to Chambery and then 2 hours to Courchevel.

If using SAT NAV:

Set the destination to Rue de l’Ariondaz, (or Plan du Vah – the same road a little further up) Moriond (postal code is 71320)

Here are some (hopefully) useful links to help you plan your journey our apartment 'Flocon de Neige' in 1650 or to Courchevel in general.
If you are flying, the nearest airport is Chambery (about an hour and a half - 2 hours away), or other destinations include; Geneva (two and a half - hours), Lyon (three Hours) or Grenoble Isere (three hours).

If you are planning to drive using France’s excellent motorway network then you will need to cross the channel at some point !
Try these carriers - we can recommend Eurotunnel (Le Shuttle) as the most straightforward ...usually :-) Links below:

If you decide to fly, then you can either transfer from the airports using public transport or hire your own car. We can recommend Rhino Car Hire who are a British based company who will search and find the best car hire deal for you.

Train is by far the most eco-friendly way to travel. Alternative suggestions are made below to travel to Moutiers (the closest station).

Train Bookings

Private hire transfers can be booked independently but they will often be very expensive unless you are able to sprerad the cost in a group. The British run 'Le Praz Transfers' (brilliant service- cheap (for Courchevel !), freindly and really reliable) or 'Snow Bus' may be your cheapest option here.
